Arctic Fox (Vulpes lagopus) pouncing in the snow. Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. Photo by Hal BrindleyArctic Fox

(Vulpes lagopus)

I’ve watched a couple different species of foxes hunt, but nothing quite compares to the pouncing technique of the Arctic Fox.

They jump so incredibly high that it’s surreal to watch. I went to Churchill, Manitoba to photograph polar bears but I wound up having some of my favorite moments photographing foxes. I knew that the little guy in this photo was getting ready to pounce because he tensed his body and tilted his head from side to side. All I had to do was set up the camera and wait!
