Hello friends around the world. Welcome to the Creature Feature!

Exciting news: Creature Gallery is having an opening this Friday night at 6 PM. The show is called "He Shoots Kids, I Shoot Animals". It is a joint photographic exhibit with my friend Kevin Wilberger. (Yes, he shoots kids. With a camera.)

It will be a silent auction to raise funds for Kevin's non-profit JAHH corp which is currently building schools in Honduras and Tanzania. The auction closes at 10PM so get your bids in before then. You might get a great deal on an amazing image!

There's lots of other big news going on so check the sidebar for the scoop. Now on to the feature!

Creature Feature: CATS

Normally I feature a single species, but today I decided to do something a little different. In honor of my two beautiful kitties, Binky and Scamper, I present to you a montage of every species of cat I have ever photographed. See how many you can identify! (answers in side bar).

And finally, my two favorite cats in the world, Binky and Scamper. I will be traveling for a while and need to find someone to adopt these beautiful critters. If you are a cat lover and are interested in being their god-parents, PLEASE let me know! Thank you!

Binky: female, short legs, kitten-face, sweet disposition, beautiful voice

Scamper: male, handsome, adventurous, snuggly, suave

Thanks so much for reading and have a great week ladies and gents.

-Hal

GALLERY CLOSING!
It's official. I'm selling my building and closing the gallery! I may open it again in another location but for now I will just be maintaining the virtual gallery online. The bad news is I won't get to open the cafe/bar. The good news is, I will spend the next year traveling! Upcoming journeys may include Brazil, Honduras, Kenya/Tanzania, Southeast Asia, sailing in the Carribean, and Antarctica! Stay tuned for lots of pics!

LOOK WHAT I DID!
I just got notice from HGTV that their new show Look What I Did will begin airing this weekend. They have not yet scheduled the episode I appear in (#307) but I am featured on the HGTV website!

BUY MY COOL STUFF!
I am having a moving sale on Sunday November 5 from 10 AM to 3 PM! It will be INDOORS, rain or shine. I have a lot of great stuff to unload before hitting the road including furniture, kitchenware, tools, a photo blind, a PA system, a bike, and other random weird things!

About the Cats

Here are the answers to the cat quiz on the left:

  • Ocelot
  • Caracal
  • Serval
  • Cheetah
  • Margay
  • Bobcat
  • Mountain Lion
  • Jaguar (regular and black form)
  • Leopard
  • Tiger
  • African Wildcat
  • Lion

These 12 species of cat are less than a third of the 37 species worldwide!

Did you know...

All domestic cats are descended from the African Wildcat. The one walking toward a termite mound in the bottom photo. It's the only one I've ever seen in the wild. (Kalahari Desert, South Africa.)

A black panther is actually a jaguar with a very dark coat. If you look at one very closely you can still see its spots!

The Mountain Lion is generally categorized as a small cat because it does not posess the ability to roar like the other big cats. It also has more names than any other cat including:

  • Mountain Lion
  • Puma
  • Cougar
  • Panther
  • Catamount

These are all the same animal!

Adopt My Cats!

Binky and Scamper are brother and sister. They turned 10 last month. They were born on a farm in Winston-Salem, NC to a mother named Pencil. Legend has it that Binky fell in a toilet when she was a kitten and perhaps this has contributed to her somewhat nervous nature. Scamper, however, is quite sociable and will readily sit in any lap available. They are the sweetest kitties I have ever known, and according to many they are the coolest cats around. I need to find some great kitty care-takers to adopt them either short-term or long-term. If you think this is a possibility for you, please contact me.

Thanks so much!
